‘The Forever Story’ is the third studio album of artist J.I.D., released on August 26 of 2022. J.I.D made his wave pursuing his musical aspirations instead of following his career in football.
In February of 2017, J.I.D. officially signed to Dreamville, a notable record label founded by the famous rapper J. Cole. In the following month, J.I.D. released his first studio album, ‘The Never Story’. Since then his popularity has only skyrocketed and he has made a name for himself in the years since. The album was a 2-year long production from 2020 to 2022, however due to COVID-19 and the pandemic, the album was delayed in favor to work on the album “Spillingion”. In an interview with Billboard, J.I.D. recalls the album as something similar to his magnum opus. “This next album [The Forever Story] is the best s*** I’ve ever done in my life. Every step I’ve taken was worth it, and our blocks are building.”
ACARIO
‘The Forever Story’ is a tale familiar to many African Americans as it not only tells the tale of J.I.D.’s rise as an artist, but it details systemic racial issues in America towards African Americans. It’s one of the few albums that resonates with me because of some of the subject matter and though not everyone has gone through some of the things J.I.D. describes, it still hits and has something everyone can relate to. It’s an album that means something and has a statement to make and it makes me excited for whatever J.I.D. may drop next.
FAU
“The Forever Story” is an experience. Front to back, it’s a well put together album, with standout tracks like “2007”, “Can’t Punk Me” and “Sistanem.” It’s a very personal work, as it details J.I.D’s personal life, upbringing and success as a rapper. This intimacy is stitched together with its vocal monologues interjected in between different tracks. In short, “The Forever Story” is an enjoyable experience, and I can see myself coming back to it voluntarily.
