Senior Rebecca Pyun has been playing tennis since sophomore year for fun with her family. She made varsity that year and has loved it ever since. Unfortunately she was injured and unable to play her junior year, but she has made a comeback as a senior. Pyun says “With tennis I just get a safe space to forget about stresses and other things in my life. It’s more like getting to play a fun game with friends rather than an overly competitive sport for me.”
Pyun does not see herself playing in college but quotes “ I do want to continue playing with friends who also enjoy tennis and are relatively good at it. I would like to play tennis for as long as I can and when it comes time to play some pickleball I can destroy some old folks in it.” Something all student athletes should remember is that a huge part of sports are fun and having a good time, and Pyun knows that she has made that her goal for her senior year in tennis, “this year I want to just have fun, knowing it is my senior year. I’d rather have fun and do relatively good, rather than stress over trying to be super good and not have a good time. I don’t want to set standards too high that it’ll cause stress with the sport.”
Pyun has played soccer for fourteen years on every different level, this sport has taught her how to be competitive and keep her going during matches so it has helped her even in tennis.
