“I believe the themes of the movie [The Nightmare Before Christmas] are more moody and dark. And the author Tim Burton is known for his darker concepts” says senior Quinn Fotos.
Since the release of “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas,” fans have been buzzing with the question of whether “The Nightmare Before Christmas” is a Halloween or a Christmas film.
Burton is known for his eerie and haunting works, such as “Corpse Bride,” “Frankenweenie,” “Beetlejuice” and “Edward Scissorhands.” “The Nightmare Before Christmas” is no exception to this. One side of the discussion believes it is a Halloween movie because of the alluring landscape of Halloween Town, its frightening characters, and its Halloween-inspired soundtrack. On the other hand, people believe it is a Christmas movie as it is set during Christmas time and the entire plot is about stealing Christmas, therefore making it a Christmas Movie.
I would consider the movie to be a Halloween movie. I understand that the plot is centered around Christmas and stealing the Holiday, but the aesthetic and main setting of the movie, Halloweentown, is what makes me think it is a Halloween film. From a survey, we found over 40% of people think that it’s a Halloween Movie. Over 20% think it’s a Christmas movie.
Nonetheless, it is an outstanding movie, whether you are surrounded by pumpkins and dressed in a costume, or in pajamas surrounded by presents underneath the Tree.
