Murals
Principal Jake Tyrrell explains the inspiration behind the addition of student-painted murals, stating “there are lots of white walls, but so many student ideas.” This idea started with filling the admin office hallways with student artwork and creations. The staff loved this, so Tyrrell wanted to expand this idea throughout the school to highlight and celebrate students by offering them a place to express themselves. The first project started is a Native American student artwork mural. This will be located by the TV screen near the entrance of the school. Native American students will have the opportunity to paint sea, land, and sky portions of the mural to recognize their tribes. Tyrrell states how he, “wants it to be a living thing that we can change and add to as students come and go.” Team Sports and Yoga teacher Lisa Slater will also have a mural added to the wall inside the yoga room. This project is meant to cultivate a relaxing space for her students. Senior Katie Stafford is pioneering another mural through the hall past Mrs. Henderson and Mrs. Webster’s rooms. She designed the painting and was able to create it with the help of other class officers and senior class advisor Mr. Hauser. Stafford explains her inspiration behind the mural, stating, “it would add a bit more joy and brightness to the school.”
Student Store
SHS’ beloved student store will be relocated inside the cafeteria! The glass wall of Mrs. Henderson’s classroom that faces the lunch room will be transformed into a window for students to easily access during both lunches. Principal Jake Tyrrell expresses his excitement for this project and the new opportunities that come with it. By relocating it, it will be more accessible and will keep students in the central lunch area. Tyrrell would also like to use this as an opportunity to market and create more school merchandise and apparel, hoping for it to “make the culture better and boost school spirit.” The ultimate goal is to allow students to design and market merchandise to sell inside the student store. The current student store will be converted to a conference room, which creates a private space for administration and teachers to hold conferences.
