Coach Matt Robles connects with the 2022 Steilacoom team during a timeout. In this game against Lakes High School during the McCrossin tournament, Steilacoom ended up winning the game. Robles will now coach the Lakes Lancers this fall in a full-circle moment.
The SHS student body and basketball team was recently shocked with the news that Matt Robles, math teacher and the SHS boys basketball head coach, will be leaving Steilacoom after this school year. Before announcing it to the entire student body and families, Robles personally shared his resignation with the boys basketball team. Robles stated that the, “timing is right,” for him and that he needs to do what is best for him ultimately. Robles expressed his gratitude for the students at SHS and the close relationships he built throughout his time teaching and coaching here. With regards to the basketball team, Robles said that he will always “be supporting them,” and is confident that the team will continue to be successful. Robles has already been offered a job at Lakes High School and will be taking on a role as both a teacher and coach.
